If you’re looking for a great fall activity this year, November 5th through the 11th is National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week. This is a perfect opportunity to catch up with the shelters and animal rescue groups in your area and learn how they help animals in need all year long.

What better way to kick off the giving season than get involved with their good work?

How You Can Help

All animal shelters and rescues need help keeping up with the pace of homeless animals. According to the National Humane Society, just 3,500 shelters house an estimated 6-8 million pets each year. This incredible responsibility naturally means a lot of hard work, and a big need for supplies.

If you’re looking to do your part during National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, here are just a few contributions that can help make a big difference.

  • Volunteers are always needed for animal shelters and rescues. These pets need feeding and cleaning, but also human interaction and socialization.
  • Share posts advertising adoptable animals on your social networks; you may be surprised who is looking for a new furry friend.
  • Collect supplies from your local shelter’s wish list and deliver them. Blankets, towels, toys, food bowls, and cleaning supplies are always needed.
  • Show your appreciation for the shelter workers and volunteers in your area. Positive encouragement and recognition for hard work is a great motivator and energizer. These good vibes even make their way to the animals, who share in the good spirits of their human caretakers.

There are many animal shelters in the Austin and Dallas areas. Here are just a few. Click on a link below to visit their website.

As we thank animal shelters for all the hard work they do helping animals in need – please consider giving back in one of the ways above. And keep in mind – every week … and every day … animal shelters are in need. You can help out any time throughout the year.
