I had two tabby cats, a brother and sister, for over 20 years. The female passed away first, and then the male. I was heartbroken, since I had had them for so many years. While the tabbies were still alive, I adopted two other kittens, two brothers, Davy and Bowie (pronounced Boo-eee). Davy is a sweet orange tabby – have you heard that male orange tabbies are the sweetest cats? Bowie is a huge, long-haired black cat. Finally, when my mother came to live with me in 2015, we adopted two females, Serena and Sterling. Serena has multiple colors and Sterling is gray. Sterling is in love with Davy and follows him around everywhere.
What is the funniest or most memorable experience you’ve have with an animal?
My female tabby used to open and close front door locks, especially when I was away and had hired sitters. It drove them crazy. In one instance, a maintenance man had to climb up a ladder to the second floor and slip in through the patio door. I was out of the country, so couldn’t help in any way.
Why do you love working with animals?
I love communicating with animals. Animals know right from wrong, and they give you unconditional love. Being with an animal who looks into my eyes gives me the ultimate bonding experience.
What is your ultimate goal in life?
I always strive to be kind to others. You may hear about “random acts of kindness.” Why “random?” My motto is to show kindness whenever possible.
