Resident Pets

Currently, I have an adorable kitty named Calypso. She has quite the sassy attitude, but is also a huge sweetheart and sleeps curled up next to me every night.  I love her so much, and I swear sometimes she is the only thing getting me through the stresses that come with attending college.  At my house in San Diego, we also have a family dog named Tegan. She is half Chihuahua, half schnauzer, so she has quite the fiery and energetic personality as well. I spend a lot of time playing with her when I go home, running around in the yard and throwing her favorite toys.

What is the funniest or most memorable experience you’ve have with an animal?

Growing up, I had two labs, who were brother and sister named Sonny and Sadie. One day, I could tell by the way that she was acting, she wasn’t feeling well. I called her over, and as always she came trotting up.  About two seconds after I started petting her she threw up all over my feet! That seemed to do the trick for her, as she started wagging her tail and ran away to go roll in the grass. Meanwhile, I was stunned into sitting there with her throw up all over my feet.

Why do you love working with animals?

I love working with animals because animals always seem just inherently good, and have a very calming effect on me. I enjoy being able to foster relationships with new animals that I meet, by getting them to trust me and figuring out what they like best. I also believe there is nothing better than coming home after a long, hard day to either a dog or cat that you know will comfort and love you unconditionally.  I cannot imagine a life that does not include animals in it.

What is your ultimate goal in life?

My ultimate goal in life is to find a career that I love so that I love going to work every day. I am a healthcare management major in college, but am still trying to figure out what aspect of healthcare I find the most fascinating. Ultimately, I would love to be managing a practice or facility that focuses on neuroscience and brain health, as I am very passionate about helping people keep their brains healthy and the cutting edge research that is going on in Neuroscience. In this world where I have achieved all of my goals, I would also like to have two dogs, one who would love to go on runs with me, and one kitty.
