DINING OUT WITH YOUR DOG IN PLANO

Dogs are welcome on the patios of many Plano restaurants, which makes a meal out an easy way to include your dog. Trusted since 2001, VIP Pet Services provides in-home pet sitting and dog walking across the Dallas Metroplex, and we gathered the Plano patios below for dog parents who like to take their pet along.

THE BENEFITS OF DINING OUT WITH YOUR DOG

A meal out gives you and your dog time together and a change of scenery. A few things make it go well.

TIME TOGETHER

A patio meal lets you spend unhurried time with your dog away from home.Woman holding a small dog at an outdoor restaurant table

A CHANGE OF SCENERY

A restaurant patio brings new sights, sounds and smells. Busy patios can be a lot for some dogs, so start with a quieter time and watch how yours settles in.

OUTDOOR SEATING

Dogs are welcome on patios only, not inside the restaurant. Shade, space between tables and a quieter corner make a longer meal easier.

A WALK BEFORE OR AFTER

If your dog is comfortable walking in a busy shopping district, a short stroll before or after the meal is an easy addition.

PRECAUTIONS TO TAKE WHEN DINING OUT WITH YOUR DOG

A little courtesy toward other guests and the restaurant staff keeps patios open to dogs. A few etiquette tips:

Comfortable and Leashed

Make sure your dog is comfortable around people, other dogs and noise. Keep your dog on a leash or in a secure carry bag at all times, and keep dogs off tables and chairs. If your dog is new to busy places, visit during off-peak hours.

Outdoor Seating Only

Dogs stay on the patio and out of the restaurant. Policies and seating vary, so call ahead to confirm that dogs are welcome and that a patio table is available.

Hygiene and Cleanliness

Bring waste bags and clean up promptly. Carry water for your dog, and be considerate of other guests.

Noise and Disturbances

If your dog barks often or gets nervous around crowds, choose a quieter time or a restaurant with a larger patio.

Comfort and Safety

Look for shade and fresh water, and never leave your dog unattended. Watch for hot surfaces, and keep your dog from eating food that has fallen on the ground.

Bring a favorite blanket or toy and take short breaks to check in with your dog.
